Hi, I’m Giulia
Project manager. Parent. An expat based in Rome, Italy.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Started
Moving to Italy wasn't in the master plan. As with many international moves, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something much larger.
The first months were demanding — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday chores felt more tangled than expected.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of hands-on learning. But gradually, routines took shape. We found places that fit us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt steady.
Why I Built VelvetTopazLinen
Most online guidance was either corporate relocation advice or shallow tourism content. What was missing was an honest, day-to-day family viewpoint.
This site aims to fill that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in Italy.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site is:
- Practical insights from living in Italy
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever something truly changes
This site isn't:
- A tourism authority resource
- A platform for sponsored reviews
- Just another generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Italy continues, and so does the learning process. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Rome or anywhere in Italy, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Cheers,
Giulia
